Over
the many years, I have been very fortunate to fish in a variety of places here
in BC. One thing was common everywhere I went. Proof that I was no the first one
there. Now I know many of us hope we find that spot, one that is pristine, and
has no sign of humankind. However, wait, there is a sign, a nice tangle of monofilament,
or some other fishing line laying around or better yet snagged at the end of our
line. Perhaps it is the tin beverage container, or one of my personnel favorites
the old Styrofoam worm container. Truth is that almost anywhere we go these days
we can find trash left behind by others that may not have the same respect for
the outdoors. Snags happen, however the various trash left behind really has no
excuse. I have seen others cleaning areas they fish or use, carrying
out others refuse. To you I salute you and your tireless efforts to keep our waterways
and outdoors cleaner than when you arrived.
I myself decided to take
another approach and see what products are available to us that can assist in
lowering the trash impact we have. However, I wanted more. What more is there
you ask? Have you been at a marine fueling station and seen the "small accidents,"
a drop here, a small opps there. The result is a nice little slick on the water.
Now we say it is only a drop in a big body of water. I say, multiply that drop
by the many boaters on the waters today. A drop of rain is only a drop... However,
many drops add up to a rainstorm. Just like our cars, we may not always have most
environmentally sound boat motors.
I knew I could do better by creating
something as a solution rather than complaining about it. Well the Green Team
was conceived in 2007 to create change. How are we doing that? By bringing to
market high performance electric outboard motors so, we no longer need that ICE
on the water and the oil and gas that go with them.
How do we bring
attention to our cause and projects? We shall be competing in various angling
tournaments with our electric drives across the country. Educating along the way
as to the options we have today to create change on our waterways. Watch for our
proof of concept boat coming to waters near you.
